Walter Deemer's Joke Of The Month -- April, 2006
The Smothers Brothers recently did a show in our area. After they did a bit on how recent Presidents would have handled
the George Washington cherry tree incident (Washington: "I cannot tell a lie"; Nixon would have lied, Clinton would have said "That was no
cherry tree" and Dubya doesn't know what a cherry tree is), the following ensued:
Tommy Smothers: "I don't want to leave anyone with hurt feelings. Are there any Republicans out there?"
[Some Applause]
Tommy: "Don't you read the newspapers?"
